Foreword

The standard of the breed is the sign of breeding

It describes and characterizes all the points in the ideal of a race and sets down the external appearance and its essence, and assures that it is able to fulfill its tasks.

Health is the essential ingredient here. For breeders and judges, the standard should be of paramount importance. They are always required to deal with it very carefully so as to maintain a clear relationship so that the health and welfare of the breed are not harmed in any way.

For the Basset Hound breed, we distinguish:

  • the applicable standard for us: the FCI No. 163/02.02.1998/D (UK origin)
  • the standard of the American Kennel Club and
  • the standard of the English Kennel Club.

The American and British standards are recognized by the FCI.
